an eventful week!

What a week it's been!

First off, my dad and I have been having rather loud discussions about my aspirations of pursuing a game composer job. Yes, indeed. . . they have not been very nice at all. Basically, he said that music is only for talented people and I did not look like a failure before . . .I've wasted my degree (although he never thought it carried much value before) and etc. etc. etc. It was a rather taxing conversation. I responded as best as I could with factual information to counter his personal/emotional responses. . . Unfortunately, there is little I can do about my parents. I believe most of their arguments are at fault due to poor information or their lack of knowledge of the industry. All I can do is move forward and show them what I'm capable of.

On another note, I talked to one of my professors who was quite shocked to hear that I am neither a music major or an arts and technology major and. . . an undergraduate (I was taking a graduate level course with him in our arts and technology department). And after discussing my plans for the future, I received positive feedback. In turn, he recommended me to two professors who are teaching an animation class and are working on a short animation. I've now signed up to help them with music. I really how that goes well. I want to showcase the hardwork of the students as best as possible and meet their standards. I'm really anxious and hope that things go well.

Today though, I had great intentions of starting to work on a song for the animation. So I left my apartment to go to the school's midi lab and just set up things when I started to hear this really odd whirring sound and popping. It really shocked me since I was working alone in the lab, but I deduced that someone was possibly moving equipment in the room behind me (which is connected to the midi lab). However, once the sounds stopped, I got up (phone in tow, ready to call for help if need be)and went over to the room to investigate. It was locked. Resigned, I went back to my workstation, but it wasn't long until I started to smell something. To be honest, it initially smelled like burned popcorn. I promptly left the room in search of other people in the building. I ran over to a close-by computer lab, only to find that the door was locked. . . they closed at 9:15 PM, and it was 9:20. . . >_< come on!!! Anyways, running around, there was no one in sight. I went back and by then, the smell (perhaps similar to burning plastic?) had spread throughout the room, though there were no signs of smoke or the sound of burning.

Good thing I brought my phone (I had previously forgotten it on my way out)!

I called my boyfriend who then gave me the campus police number. They responded rather quickly, an officer came over and I described the situation. He unlocked the door and told me to wait outside the room. Not finding anything, he called for two other officers. In total, the fire department, campus security guard, and an electrician ended up investigating the whole building (by then, I was moved outside of the building). In the end, they could not pinpoint the location. . . and left. Weird.

All I can say is that I'm glad the lab didn't burn down. >_< I distinctly remember thinking how unfortunate that would be and wondering how I would be able to compose the music for the animation class. Alas!

Hopefully, the rest of my week will be just as eventful. . . but safe >_< !

p.s. My new dryer in my apartment is terrifying! Apparently it buzzes when the cycle is completed. . . and here I was praising that it's quieter than my old one!
