road trippin'
So I left Thursday night to venture out for my first solo drive to Austin. :) It was quite successful, though I get really nervous driving next to 18-wheelers when there's only two lanes and a wall next to you. >_<My trip was wonderful. It's silly how great it was to be around Eric again. Baaah, love, it makes you very happy. ♥
Austin really is quite a beautiful city. I love the atmosphere and overall aesthetics that they provide through culture, architecture, and color. It's quite a refreshing taste from the structure of Dallas. I want a city with culture and character.
One of my favorite things about Austin is how they incorporate the structure and nature, as well as the active population. Ladybird Lake was bustling with kayaks, cyclists, joggers, and dogs of all sizes (all while maintaining a clean park!). The dogs were ridiculously fun to watch, as they jumped into the lake, chased each other, but alas. . .I didn't spot any welsh corgis. . . What we did spot, though, was a dog who threatened two swans, but ran off in defeat. Swans hiss. I'd be scared, too.
Overall, I spent my time eating, relaxing, and in love. Speaking of eating, Saturday night we drove to Sonic, and I saw a deer on other side of the road. While I was pointing at the deer, suddenly, I saw a flash to the right of the car. Apparently, a deer ran RIGHT in front of our moving car. SCARY. Oddly. . . I was reminded of the terrible sequel to The Ring.
Aside from that, I like the variety of food that they have in Austin. The public that they cater to is quite diverse, and it's nice to escape chain restaurants.
Here's a list of what I came across:
Momoko 10/10
A ridiiiiculously fantastic bubble tea/ asian gift shop. I went to this small cafe with my childhood friend, Kris, who also had never been there. Their drink selection is quite large, with fairly odd descriptions. I ended up getting the "Pink Lady" which was a combination of strawberry, vanilla, and tea. It was amaaaazing, and tasted almost like chocolate covered strawberries, with a touch of tea. . . but surprisingly light.
Mozart 7/10
Kris and I also went over to Mozart, a coffee shop/ bakery. I had a fabulously chocolatey concoction, and Kris had a tasty mini apple pie. A bit pricey, but still enjoyable.
County Line 5/10
Count Line has a nice atmosphere to it, adjacent to a creek. I had a smoked turkey sandwhich, and was pleasantly surprised that the meat wasn't very dry. :)
Home Slice 9/10
Eric and I had some great, New York style, homemade pizza from Home Slice. The wait was quite long (I believe sometime past an hour), and they were quite busy, but it was well worth the wait.
