of music and ninja cats
So I worked on, and practically finished, the second theme song today! Yeeeaaaah! Take that! :D I think it turned out okay, although I still need to do some tweaking later. I was really anxious though, and worried that I wouldn't get it sounding appropriate, so hopefully people will think it works out!Today at work, my boss came in and my co-worker and I were blasting music and watching a Youtube video of a ninja cat. . . yeaaaaah. I quickly tried to cover up by clicking on our work e-mail, then tried exiting out of Firefox. . . but. . . I had several tabs open and it asked me if I wanted to exit. . . but I was at the opposite side of the room by that time. . . (this was while she was unlocking the door and entering the lab). Aaaanyways, it was rather interesting, and I covered up by saying that we were about to assemble a table we purchased for the lab (which we were going to do eventually!). . . >_<
Tomorrow will be a bit eventful! My music theory class (which I'm surprisingly terrible at. . . b/c my first piano teacher emphasized on performance instead of theory) will be having an oral test. Apparently, we have to individually sing a short exercise. I'm terrified! One, because I can't sing, and two, because I shouldn't sing!!! >_< In fact, although he said that we can transpose the high notes to lower ones if we can't hit them, I can't hit either! Saaadnesssss...... yes, that's right, sad!!!! On the bright side, at least I can tell I'm out of tune. ;)
Tomorrow we're also having an orientation for an original computer game competition. I competed last year and actually got to make music and sfx for the team that took first place (yay!), but this year, I suppose I'll have to find a team to adopt me (since most of my team graduated). I kind of want to shop around and see what ideas people have, do you think they'll take me? Anyways, I get to talk a little during the orientation about last year's event. From a music standpoint, I suppose my little ditty would be shorter than advice a programmer would have, so I'll have to think about what I want to say.
Actually, I think I know what I want to say. I think it's rather important to get the sound designer involved in the game right from the beginning. Regardless of whether you are still brainstorming or making concept art, it's important that there is that communication between the developers and the musicians so that they can have a better feel for what you are trying to achieve. In fact, I think concept art is essential. You'd be surprised at how changing one instrument to another can effect the overall feel of an environment! And of course, the same goes for sound effects. With a whimsical looking environment, the heavy tic-tocking of a clock may not fit, ya know? Same thing with swamps and those ominous forests. . . do you really think a sparrow would be hanging around thereo? ;)
So with that said, hopefully I'll manage in the composing arena of music more successfully that I do the singing part :).
