apartment signing!

How was your weekend? I hope it was wonderful, too! :)

I had Friday off, and drove to Austin Thursday after work for apartment hunting and to celebrate the 4th of July with Eric! Quite a few friends from FSA were also in Austin as well. Unfortunately, our schedules didn't quite align, but I know they had a wonderful time. :)

It was quite a busy 3-day weekend, actually. Eric and I woke up early Friday morning so that we could get to the leasing office when they opened. They had been holding a particular apartment for us that day, so that I could take a peek (Eric had already seen it that week). It was actually pretty nice. We were able to get a really good rate, and the apartment was on the 3rd floor overlooking the woodsy area. It had a vaulted ceiling and nice light fixtures (haha), but when we walked in, right away you could tell the apartment smelled like smoke. At first, I thought it was the old tenant, but when we checked out the balcony, we saw a pile of cigarette butts and out walked two smokers. Bummer! Can you imagine? They probably smoke quite often, and it was rather discouraging to think that we wouldn't be able to appreciate the patio (and even the apartment) because of the smell...

The leasing office was quite busy (which was a bit scary!), but we were able to beat the heat and check out several more apartments. It was quite successful, and I'm really excited! The apartment we chose (and signed papers for!) has a lovely view (well... from Eric's room, haha), a fantastically steampunk-looking furnace, and what I'd like to consider, puppy-friendly floors :).

I'm pretty nervous when I think about moving, but excited as well. I've recently had some casual conversations with my dad (success!) and have been relatively busy with last minute gatherings with friends and such. I really hope I don't get lonely in Austin. Does that sound silly? So, I hope I can possibly enthuse people about
journeying for a visit some time! In fact, Josh has already told me that he's taking a few days off to come and visit, and that makes me super happy. :) Do visit! Do visit! :)

Now for the not-so-exciting part... packing.

Gah.

Hardwood floors make the dog's nails tapdance. Amusing for you, stressful for a very excited and slippery puppy!
