back to school!

Sometimes I'm terribly surprised when hearing about old friends/childhood friends that are getting engaged/married or already have a couple of kids. It scares me to think that we're getting old.

That said, it also scares me to think I'll be graduating soon, too. I've always wanted to hurry up and graduate so I could do whatever I was planning on doing, but now, I feel like there is so much I still want to learn. Signing up for my last semester of classes, I realized that there were so many courses I wish I could take. But of course, you can't do everything :).

The break seemed like it went by so quickly (must have been the excess foodage)! Up until the very last minute I practically had something to do (which was fun, but a bit tiring, haha). I also realized that this is the first time since high school that I've had a few close girl friends that I'm comfortable talking to or hanging out with. Now I know that sounds silly, huh? In all honesty though, it's refreshing and comforting. Maybe I've become too soft. <3

This is the first week we've been back to school. For the most part, I like my classes, though I know I'll be ridiculously busy this semester. I originally wanted to quit my job this semester so that I have more time for projects, Goodphil, classes, and working on my portfolio (since I'll be graduating!), but I ended up staying because:

1. We started on a new project at work and I'm partially in charge.
2. Brittany, the other one working on the project with me, is leaving soon.
3. I'm a nerd, and I kind of want to see how some of the experiment will pan out.

I'll only be working minimal hours, and I suppose it helps that I won't get to participate in Goodphil this year (curse you, knee!), but I know that I'll be quite busy and need to manage my time more efficiently (but still enjoyably). Sooooo, good luck, me!

Two classes I'm taking this semester make me a bit nervous and excited, one being a composition class and the other, a game class. I'm a bit nervous about the composition class, and I often wonder how advanced the other students are, and how I'll mesh. I know, I know. . . I worry too much. :) On the first day of class, we actually had to say what instruments we can play. . . and I was the only one that could only list one >_< . I'm also unskilled in regards to actually writing music accurately on sheet paper (I have a tendency of writing on blank paper using my own method, or just recording things by ear (usually the later)). I suppose we'll see how that pans out, eh? For the game class, I'm the audio lead! I get to manage all sounds/music, make decisions, etc. etc. Unfortunately, there's only about 2 people on my team, and there's a lot that needs to be done. After reading the game document with all of the concepts and etc., I found out that we'll be doing quite a bit of voice recording, so that will be an area I'll be getting a crash course on. Sound-wise, ideally, I'd like them to all be original foley work, but I know that we won't have enough time/manpower, and we will have to work with libraries (though hopefully we will have lots of original foley work), and regardless, there will be lots of editing. The other guy on my team is very versed in sound editing, so I'll have to utilize his knowledge and quickly work on adding onto my own. Most of the stuff I will have to be doing on my own, though, which is kind of exciting.

Let's see. . . what else? Oh, here's a random story! So on Tuesday, I woke up and saw a ring of soot covering my toilet seat! Seriously, no kidding. After further inspection, my keyboard had some soot, my ceiling had spots of soot (I think the cobwebs randomly picked up some), a couple of my stuffed animals absorbed some :(, a couple medicine containers had spots, and interestingly enough, the insides of my nose had soot. No joke! So I thought that maybe it was from a candle that I was burning the night before in the living room, but there weren't any spots in the living room, only in my room and the bathroom. . . And though I haven't seen anything odd since, it's still kind of weird to think about. . .

Noooow, I think that's about it for my update. :)

dang! busy day of posts!

haha when I read "soot ring around my toilet" i was like, "OMG Kat is writing about a poo ring. DISGUSTING! WHY WHY WHY?!" lol
My guess is the candle. Always buy candles that say that they have "lead free wicks" bc otherwise they will not only eventually stain your belongings, obviously lead smoke is bad for your health...:)
